ABOUT US |

The South Australian Ornithological Association Incorporated celebrated its centenary in 1999. The Association was founded in Adelaide in March 1899 and is the oldest birding association in Australasia. It is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the conservation and study of Australian native birds.
Birds SA maintains a conservation fund where tax deductible donations can be made.
Membership is open to both serious and casual bird watchers, and any age is welcomed.
Monthly meetings are held on the last Friday of every month, except December, in the Charles Hawker Conference Centre, The University of Adelaide, Waite Road, Urrbrae starting at 7.45 pm.
Field trips are held monthly on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and visitors are welcomed to come along.
The Association has an extensive library containing books, journals, videos and tape recordings which are available for borrowing by members.
In 2001 we adopted the much simpler name of Birds SA.
The logo of Birds SA, the Chestnut-breasted Whiteface (Aphelocephala pectoralis, Gould) is endemic to South Australia. Its range is restricted to the arid, gibber desert country north of Port Augusta (the type locality), west of the Flinders Ranges and Lake Eyre to the Stuart Range and west of Oodnadatta.
