SURVEYS |
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is calling on community members to report sightings of known nesting locations of Tree Martins within the Adelaide metropolitan area during December and January. The Tree Martin is considered one of the declining woodland birds of the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges (AMLR) region based largely on a decline in population size and the alteration of its natural habitat. The aim of the nesting survey is to determine just how well Tree Martins are transitioning from natural nesting habitats, such as tree hollows and river banks, to buildings and other artificial structures by identifying their current nesting locations and nest types.
As you may have noticed, Tree Martins have recently been breeding over the spring and early summer with nesting occurring from August through to December. Current information regarding the locations of these Tree martin nests is particularly important to our future nest box efforts and enables us to construct current and future conservation efforts.
We Need YOU!
If you believe you know the particular location of a Tree Martin nest site and are interested in assisting us, please contact Threatened Fauna Ecologist Luke Price via
